Stay Secure Beyond Windows 10 End of Support with Extended Security Updates
As Windows 10 approaches its official end of support on October 14, 2025, Microsoft is offering a lifeline for users who need more time to transition: the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This paid subscription service allows individuals and organizations to continue receiving critical security updates for up to three additional years, helping maintain device security while planning for migration to newer platforms.
The ESU program is available to both commercial and consumer users, with pricing starting at $61 USD per device for Year One through Microsoft’s Volume Licensing Program. The cost doubles each subsequent year, with a maximum of three years of coverage. For consumers, enrollment is managed through the Windows Update settings, and eligible devices will see an enrollment prompt if they meet the prerequisites.
To qualify, devices must be running Windows 10 version 22H2 and have the latest cumulative updates installed. ESU does not include new features, non-security updates, or general support beyond the scope of the ESU itself. It’s designed as a temporary bridge, not a long-term solution, giving users time to upgrade while staying protected. Microsoft also offers free ESU coverage for Windows 10 virtual machines hosted in Azure environments, including Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365 Cloud PCs, and others. This makes it easier for organizations that leverage cloud infrastructure to maintain security without requiring additional configuration.

Sage 50 Hosted Has Been Renamed Sage 50 Cloud Hosted
What is the difference between Sage 50c, Sage 50cloud, Sage 50 Desktop, and Sage 50 Cloud Hosted?
Sage introduced Sage 50c in 2017 as a robust desktop accounting solution enhanced with cloud-connected capabilities, including seamless integration with Microsoft Office 365.
In 2018, the product was rebranded as Sage 50cloud, emphasizing its use of Remote Data Access (RDA)—a feature that enables users to securely share and access company data over the internet. While the software remains installed locally on a computer, RDA enables authorized users to access the same data remotely without requiring a fully cloud-based infrastructure.
In 2023, Sage rebranded the product once again, this time as Sage 50 Accounting. Despite the name changes, the core functionality remains consistent: it is still a desktop application with limited cloud capabilities, primarily delivered via RDA.
For users seeking a more comprehensive cloud experience, Sage 50 Cloud Hosted offers a fully hosted version of the software. In this setup, both the application and data reside on a remote server, enabling true cloud-based access and collaboration. This means users can access Sage 50 from virtually any device—whether it’s a Mac, tablet, or other internet-connected device—without requiring local installation.

BOI Update
A Major Win for Small Businesses: FinCEN to Destroy Beneficial Ownership Data
In a significant victory for small business owners across the country, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has announced plans to destroy previously collected Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) data. This decision follows strong advocacy efforts led by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), along with key congressional leaders, including Senator Jim Banks and Congressman Warren Davidson. The move comes in response to widespread concerns about the security and constitutionality of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), which had mandated small businesses to submit sensitive ownership data under threat of steep fines and jail time.
NFIB President Brad Close hailed the announcement as a “major win for Main Street,” emphasizing the importance of protecting small business owners from invasive government mandates. Since the CTA’s passage in 2021, NFIB has been at the forefront of efforts to repeal the law and safeguard the privacy of over 32 million small businesses. The organization continues to push for a final rule that will permanently exempt small businesses from BOI reporting and ensure the destruction of all previously submitted data. This development marks a pivotal moment in the fight for small business privacy and regulatory relief.
