What is the difference between Sage 50 Traditional & Sage 50cloud?

In 2023, Sage decided to only offer subscription plans to better align with other software companies. The differences between Sage 50 Traditional and Sage 50cloud Subscription requires a two-part answer. The first part requires explaining the difference between a traditional plan and a subscription plan and the second part requires explaining Sage 50 Cloud & the (optional) Sage Remote Data Access Connector.

What is the difference between a traditional plan and a subscription plan?

A traditional plan gave you the option to renew your software every year to get the latest features and support. If you chose not to renew your traditional plan, you could use your software indefinitely until it breaks. A subscription plan works much like a magazine subscription. You must renew your software every year to use it. You will always have support and the latest new features and updates.

What is a Sage 50 Cloud-Connected Subscription?

Sage 50cloud is a hybrid solution that gives you the best of both worlds. Sage is still a desktop software with secure online cloud capabilities. It is not a cloud hosted application. Sage 50 is a “cloud-connected” application. Your Sage 50 data and software is NOT stored on the cloud. It is still stored on your desktop and or server.

What is Sage 50 Remote Data Access Connector?

How Data Connector works

The Remote Data Access Connector is an optional add-on that syncs data between remote users PC and the office computer and/or data server. YOU MUST BE Hardwired from a remote location and have very good internet service at all locations.  Each remote user must have a company login and an active Sage 50 license on their PC.

When remote users access data, Sage 50 Accounting downloads a copy of the up-to-date data, to the remote users PC each time they connect. The application then synchronizes data back and forth between the office computer and or server and the remote users PC.

This synchronization is referred to as “Remote Data Access” It has a prerequisite of a 2mbps minimum upload and 4Mbps minimum download speed. The data is NOT stored/saved in the cloud.
